- Create new ground in an air-drying room
We instructed structural engineers to test the ground works initially and they took core samples to assess the existing slab. The results showed that it wasn't strong enough. We excavated the old slab and installed consolidated hardcore and a new damp proof membrane on blinding sand. We then installed reinforcing grid work on 100mm upstand tables and poured a fibre-reinforced C40 mix of concrete. It was then hand-finished and then sealed around the edges with an expansion joint mixture to avoid cracking.
